After deep reflection, we chose chemical kinetics from basic to intermediate as our first-course sample for the realization of the prototype.

This kinetic course contains:

  1. Introduction to Thermodynamics.
    • Definitions.
    • Thermodynamic laws.
    • Hess law & free energy.
  2. Kinetic Definitions (Reaction rate, kinetic constants, Activation energy).
  3. Ideal reactors.
  4. Virtual interactive experiments.
    • Determination of partial & global reaction rates.
    • Determination of activation energy.
    • Determination of an empirical law.
    • Validation of a kinetic law using experiments, modeling & simulation.
  5. Catalytic reaction.
    • Homogeneous catalysis.
    • Heterogeneous catalysis.
    • Interactive virtual experiment on homogeneous & heterogeneous catalysis.
      • Reaction rate, activation energy empirical approach.
      • Initiation to the notions of diffusion & some good practices for kinetic studies.
  6. Reaction mechanisms.
    • Definitions.
    • Steady-state approximation (SSA).
    • Reproduce the first virtual experiment results & select a mechanism using the SSA.
    • A real-life complete kinetic study from virtual experiments to modeling and simulation (homogeneous examples).
    • A real-life complete kinetic study from virtual experiments to modeling and simulation (heterogeneous examples).
  7. Conclusions & good practices.
